#18 UMW Women's Tennis Tops UT-Dallas, York (Pa.) on Sunday Afternoon

The 18th ranked University of Mary Washington women's tennis team defeated the University of Texas-Dallas, 8-1, and York College of Pa., 9-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 6-2 on the season.

Against the Comets, the Eagles picked up doubles wins at two and three, with Caroline Mosberg and Mackenzie Smith winning at two, 8-3, and Alina Suyama and Sara Fioretti winning at three, 8-2. Kait Brogan and Taylor Diffley fell at one, 9-8 (3).

The Eagles swept all six singles matches, with Brogan winning at one, 6-2, 7-5; Mosberg winning at two, 6-1, 6-2; Diffley winning at three, 6-2, 2-2 (ret.), Chrissy Gaul at four, 6-2, 6-2; Smith at five, 6-0, 6-0; and Danielle Mirabella at six, 6-0, 6-0.

In the York match, Diffley and Smith won at one, 8-0; Suyama and Fioretti won at two, 8-0, and Berri Flood and Paige Weinberg won at three, 8-3.

In singles, Gaul overcame a 5-2 deficit in the first set at one to win, 7-5, 6-2; Mirabella won at two, 6-0, 6-2; Hannah Jabusch at three, 6-1, 6-0, and Ashley Price won at four, 6-0, 6-0. Brittany McBride picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win at five, and Berri Flood won at six, 6-0, 6-0.

The Eagles will return to action on Friday evening as they host Skidmore College as part of the Blue-Grey Invitational at 6:00 p.m.
