#19 UMW Women's Tennis Falls at Division I Longwood, 5-2, on Thursday

The nineteenth ranked University of Mary Washington women's tennis team jumped out to a strong start in doubles, but fell short in singles play in a 5-2 loss at Division I Longwood University on Thursday in Farmville, Va. The Eagles slip to 1-1 on the season.

Senior Shelby Harris and sophomore Kait Brogan teamed at one doubles to win, 6-1, over Fallon Burger and Isis Gill-Reid. Sophomore Caroline Mosberg and freshman Sara Fioretti won at three, 6-2, over Paloma Alatorre and Maria Coronel. Mackenzie Smith and Taylor Diffley, playing at two, provided UMW with a doubles sweep, winning at two, 7-5.

With the doubles point in hand (playing under Division I seven-point match), the Eagles were only able to claim victory at three singles, as Brogan won, 6-2, 6-2 over Gill-Reid to claim the second point of the match for the visitors in the first completed match among the singles play.

The Eagles will be back in action a week from Thursday when they host Washington College at 4:00 p.m.
