Harris, Brogan Advance to Finals of ITA Doubles Bracket; Fall in Finals in Three Sets

The University of Mary Washington women's tennis team was well represented in the semifinals of the ITA Southeast Doubles Tournament on Monday, with senior Shelby Harris and sophomore Kait Brogan taking on teammates Caroline Mosberg and Sara Fioretti in one semifinal. In the morning match, Harris and Brogan, the top seeds, advanced with an 8-3 victory.

In the final against Pavia and Sidell of Carnegie Mellon, the Eagles jumped ahead by taking the first set, 6-4, but dropped the second, 6-3. In the third, the Eagles fell behind but battled back to cut the deficit to 5-4 before falling, 6-4.

The Eagles' advancement to the finals in doubles was their first since 2009, and the two semifinalists was a first in head coach Patrick Catullo's 12 years at UMW.
