WASHINGTON & LEE’S MEIGHAN, NESS AND CNU’S HARWOOD GAIN MAJOR AWARDS AS 2014-15 VASID ALL-STATE COLLEGE DIVISION WOMEN’S TENNIS TEAM ANNOUNCED

FREDERICKSBURG, VA – Washington & Lee University senior SONJA MEIGHAN (McLean, Va.) repeated as the Virginia State College Division Player of the Year, and Christopher Newport University freshman McKINNEY HARWOOD (Omaha, Neb.) garnered Rookie of the Year honors, as the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association released its 2014-15 College Division Women’s Tennis team on Monday. W&L head coach ERIN NESS was named VaSID State Coach of the Year.
Meighan becomes the fourth player to repeat as state Player of the Year, while Ness gains Coach of the Year honors for the first time.
Meighan was joined on the first team in singles by teammate sophomore BROOKE DONNELLY (Kennesaw, Ga.), Mary Washington junior SHELBY HARRIS (Newport News, Va.), Mary Washington freshman CAROLINE MOSBERG (Deep Run, Va.), Randolph-Macon sophomore KELSIE GRICE (Hoover, Al.), and Harwood of CNU.
First team doubles honors went to Meighan and PATRICIA KIRKLAND (Charleston, S.C.) as well as MEGHAN BUELL (New Albany, Ohio) and Donnelly of W&L, and MARIA HAWKINS (Silver Spring, Md.) and MARLA O’BRYAN (Brookside, N.J.) of Bridgewater.
Second team singles honors went to Buell of Washington & Lee, KAIT BROGAN (Virginia Beach, Va.) and MACKENZIE SMITH (Landisville, Pa.) of Mary Washington, Hawkins of Bridgewater, ALEXANDRA DRYE (Salisbury, N.C.) of Christopher Newport, and MELISSA TOMLIN (Prince George, Va.) of Randolph-Macon.
Second team doubles honors went to Brogan and Harris of Mary Washington, ANGELINA SPORTELLI (Mechanicsville, Va.) and Grice of Randolph-Macon, and Harwood and Drye of Christopher Newport.
