#19 UMW Women's Tennis Falls to #13 MIT, 5-1, in NCAA Tournament Second Round

The 19th ranked University of Mary Washington women's tennnis team dropped a 5-1 decision to #13 MIT on Saturday at the Edward Hegmann Courts in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Eagles finish the season with a 17-8 record.

After falling at two doubles, 8-3, the Eagles scored a point as Shelby Harris and Kait Brogan won at one doubles, 8-6. Three doubles saw MIT take a 9-7 victory.

The Eagles were able to take the first set in two singles matches, as Mackenzie Smith won, 6-3, at five, and Caroline Mosberg won the first, 6-3. MIT won the first set at the remaining four spots, and took victories at one, 6-1, 6-1; 6-1, 6-4 at three; and 6-4, 6-0 at six for the win. Mosberg led 4-1 in the second, while Brogan led, 3-0, in the second, and Smith was tied, 4-4.

UMW finishes with a record of 17-8. Harris will advance to the NCAA singles tournament on May 20, and she and Brogan are the first alternates for the Atlantic South region in doubles.
