Raulston Gains Third CAC POY as Eagles Dominate All-CAC Women's Tennis Teams

YORK, Pa. - Mary Washington senior Lindsay Raulston became the second player in conference history to win the CAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Year award three consecutive years and led an Eagles’ sweep of first team all-star nods in both singles and doubles.

Raulston, who was the CAC Rookie of the Year in 2011 prior to winning the Player of the Year award in 2012 and 2013, also picked up her fourth-straight first-team all-star singles and doubles awards after leading the Eagles to their 11th-straight championship and 22nd title in the 24-year history of CAC women’s tennis.

Six teammates joined Raulston on the 2014 All-CAC squad, including sophomore Shelby Harris (2nd singles, 1st doubles), sophomore Mackenzie Smith (3rd singles, 3rd doubles), junior Alexandra Ritter (4th singles, 2nd doubles), sophomore Chrissy Gaul (5th singles), sophomore Berri Flood (6th singles), sophomore Alina Sumaya (2nd doubles) and freshman Ashley Barrow (3rd doubles).

Ritter, the 2012 Rookie of the Year, is making her third-straight All-CAC team appearance.  Harris, Gaul and Smith were all named first-team all-stars for the second-straight season.

Patrick Catullo, the archetict of the UMW program that is perennially nationally-ranked, was selected by his peers as the Dr. Edward Hegmann CAC Coach of the Year award winner.  It is the ninth-straight year Catullo was honored by his peers.  He is one of three Eagle coaches to be honored by the CAC coaches, along with Hegmann (eight times from 1991 to 1999) and Cindy Vander Berg (three times from 2000 to 2004).

The award was named by the CAC Board of Directors to honor former UMW women’s tennis coach and retiring Athletic Director Dr. Edward Hegmann, who won eight CAC Coach of the Year awards and led the Eagles to three national championships and nine straight CAC championships after the league was formed in 1990 through his retirement as coach in 1999. He was named the NCAA Div. III National Coach of the Year in 1988 and 1999 and recently had the outdoor courts at the UMW Tennis Complex named in his honor.

Six Salisbury players were named to the 2014 All-CAC Women’s Tennis squad, including sophomore Natalie Savage and juniors Allison Lutz and Katie Youlios as first-team honorees.

Savage, the CAC Rookie of the Year in 2013, earned first-team honors with Raulston at No. 1 singles and second-team doubles recognition.  Lutz and Youlios were picked as first-team all-stars at No. 2 doubles, and both were second-team singles all-star choices.

Sea Gull juniors Roxy Alban (2nd singles, 1st doubles), Sam Babo (3rd doubles) and freshman Claudia Lohn (3rd doubles) also earned berths on the 2014 All-CAC squad.

Christopher Newport had four players honored on the All-CAC team, led by freshman Logan Eldridge, who was picked by the coaches as a second-team all-star at No. 2 singles and 2014 Rookie of the Year.   Eldridge is the first player to be selected as the CAC Women’s Tennis Rookie of the Year for CNU, which is in its first year as a member of the CAC.

She was joined on the second-team singles squad by classmates Katie Carlson (3rd singles), Brook Boyd (6th singles) and senior Kelsey Clark (5th singles).
