St. Mary's City, Md.-- The #21 Mary Washington women's tennis team defeated St. Mary's (Md.), 9-0, on Tuesday. The win gives the Eagles the regular season title, and improves the Eagles to 13-6, 6-0 CAC on the year.
UMW got out to a fast start, winning all three doubles matches 8-0, not dropping a game. Lindsay Raulston and Shelby Harris defeated Shannon Ramsey and Emily Stumpfig at one doubles, while Alex Ritter and Alina Suyama defeated Mollie Johnson and Lauren Rost at two. Michaela Dowd and Mackenzie Smith completed the sweep at three doubles, with a win over Kayla Baier and Emily Rost.
Lindsay Raulston (one singles) and Berri Flood (four singles) each won by a score of 6-0, 6-1. Raulston downed Ramsey, while Flood defeated E. Rost. Mackenzie Smith and Alex Ritter each won in straight sets, at two and three respectively. Smith knocked off Stumpfig three and one, with Ritter winning 6-0, 6-0 over Rost. Dowd and Ashley Price rounded out the victories for the Eagles at five and six. Dowd was a 6-0, 6-2 winner over Johnson; with Price winning 6-2, 6-4 against Baier.
The Eagles return to the courts this Sunday, April 13th. The Eagles host Washington College at 2:00 p.m.
