The University of Mary Washington women's tennis team swept all three doubles matches, and then the first two in singles play to top Saint Vincent College, 5-0, in the first round of the NCAA Division III Championship tournament on Friday in Pittsburgh. The Eagles will advance to second round action on Saturday.
In doubles, freshmen Mackenzie Smith and Alina Suyama won at two, 8-0, before Alex Ritter and Chrissy Gaul won at three, 8-0. Junior Lindsay Raulston and freshman Shelby Harris provided the sweep with an 8-2 victory at one.
In singles, Raulston won, 6-2, 6-2, and Harris won at two, 6-1, 6-3, halting the match at decision at 5-0.
The Eagles (20-4) will now face host and eighth-ranked Carnegie-Mellon University in the second round on Saturday at noon.
