UMW Women's Tennis Blanks Hunter, 5-0, in NCAA Tourney First Round

The University of Mary Washington women's tennis team swept all three doubles matches, and captured two singles matches in straight sets to defeat Hunter College, 5-0, in the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament on Friday morning in Fredericksburg, Va. The Eagles improve to 16-7 on the year, and will advance to face the College opf New Jersey on Saturday at 10 a.m.

UMW's number one doubles team of Courtney Goimarac (Hudson, Ohio, Hudson) and Katie Schafer (New Market, Md., Linganore) won, 8-0, to kick off the action, and the Eagles' \#3 team of Danielle Velardi (Branford, Conn., Branford) and Cassie Bowman (Mountain Top, Pa., Crestwood) followed with an 8-0 win. The Eagles claimed the number two match as well, with Meg Lawlor (Ambler, Pa., Hatboro-Horsham) and Michelle Meadows (Virginia Beach, Va., Collegiate) winning, 8-1.

In singles play, Bowman won at five, 6-0, 6-0, before Schafer won the clincher, 6-3, 6-0, at two singles.
