UMW Women's Swimming Sits in First After Friday at Metro Championships

The University of Mary Washington women's swimming team sits in first place following Friday's events at the Metro Conference Swimming Championships in Camden, N.J.

The meet began on Thursday night, and the 800 freestyle relay of Jenny Thompson, Ashley Dyer, April Groce, and Kaylie Curran finished third with a time of 7:52.27.

On Friday, the Eagles finished 2-3-4 in the 500 freestyle, with Dyer finishing second at 5:11.75, Curran third at 5:11.78, and Rose McMullen fourth at 5:15.04. Kinsey Brooks followed by improving her NCAA provisional time in the 200 yard IM by 1.8 seconds, breaking the Metro Championship record and finishing in first place. Thompson finished third at 2:09.75, and Courtney Wolfgang eighth at 2:12.52.

In the 50 free, Thalia Costanza finished fourth at 24.37, and Sydney Hall finished fifth at 24.64, with Anna Watson taking eighth at 24.80. The 200 yard medley relay finished first and achieved an NCAA provisional time at 1:45.13. That relay consisted of Phoebe Root, Brooks, Margie Jones, and Costanza.

The meet will continue on Saturday, with morning prelims and evening finals.
