UMW Women's Swimmers Extend Margin; Place 2nd After Day Two at F&M

The University of Mary Washington women's swim team, along with Washington & Lee University, pulled away from the other competition at the Franklin & Marshall College Invitational on Saturday. The Generals and Eagles stand nearly 500 points clear of the field, with UMW trailing first place by just 60 points (1171-1111).

On Saturday, the Eagles saw the 200 medley relay of Phoebe Root, Kinsey Brooks, Margie Jones, and Thalia Costanza finish second at 1:46 93, erasing nearly two seconds off their seed time. Jenny Thompson followed by taking scond in the 400 IM at 4:36.98, and Jones followed by finishing fourth in the 100 fly at 58:36, with Bridget Wilson taking fifth at 58.48.

Brooks then won the 100 yard breaststroke at 1:04.84, followed in second by Costanza at 1:05.85. Phoebe Root was fifth in the 100 backstroke at 59.69. The Invitational will conclude on Sunday.
