UMW Women's Swimming Takes Home Opener from Marymount, Southern Va.

The University of Mary Washington women's swimming team made its home debut on Friday night, defeating Marymount University and Southern Virginia University at Goolrick Natatorium. UMW topped the Saints, 221-39, and the Knights, 218-43, and moves to 2-1 on the season.

The Eagles opened with the top four times in the 200 medley relay, with Kinsey Brooks, Thalia Costanza, Margaret Jones, and Sydney Hall taking first at 1:50.52. Ashley Dyer finished first in the 1000 yard freestyle at 10:59.39, as UMW finished 1-2-3, and freshman Delaney Humphrey won the 200 yard freestyle at 2:01.78, as UMW went 1-2-3-4. 

Freshman Phoebe Root won the 100 yard backstroke at 1:01.76, just ahead of teammate Sarah Yowell, and Costanza won the 100 breaststroke at 1:08.28, just ahead of teammate Sally Burkley. Brooks won the 200 yard fly at 2:12.17, as UMW went 1-2-3-4, and Hall won the 50 free at 24.97, with UMW finishing 1-2-3. Costanza won the 100 free at 54.79, with Hall and Root taking 2-3.

Yowell won the 200 backstroke at 2:15.19, with Humphrey and Rose McMullen following in second and third, and Dyer won the 200 breast at 2:31.40, with UMW finishing 1-2-3. Jones won the 500 free at 5:31.68, and Brooks won the 100 fly at 58.17. Humphrey won the 200 IM at 2:17.79, and the 400 free relay of Brooks, Anna Watson, Hall, and Costanza finished first at 3:43.85.

The Eagles will host the alumni on Saturday at 9 a.m. in an exhibition.
