Carley Vaughn Gains CAC Women's Swimmer of the Week

CAC -- The Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) has announced its weekly awards for the second week of November as the 2019-20 swimming campaign is underway. Mary Washington senior Austin Farrar earned CAC Men's Swimmer of the Week accolades, while his UMW classmate senior Carley Vaughn claimed CAC Women's Swimmer of the Week honors.


MEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Austin Farrar - Mary Washington

Mary Washington senior Austin Farrar was one of several Eagles to pick up wins in multiple strokes in a 176-76 win over St. Mary's in CAC action on Saturday. Farrar won the 200 yard butterfly at 2:00.46, and then later won the 200 yard breaststroke at 2:17.37.


WOMEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Carley Vaughn - Mary Washington

Mary Washington senior Carley Vaughn won a pair of races in different strokes, and also contributed to a winning relay as Mary Washington defeated St. Mary's, 172-73, on Saturday at Goolrick Natatorium. Vaughn started the meet by kicking off the winning 200 yard medley relay, which took first at 1:50.56 to kick off the proceedings. Vaughn won the 100 yard backstroke at 1:01.79, and later won the 100 yard butterfly at 1:01.45.

LEAGUE NOTES

York junior Alyssa Coon had a big night in the Spartans win at Frostburg State on Friday in Frostburg, Maryland. Coon won the 800 free with a time of 10:01.07. That time was 40 in front of the second place finisher in the race. She followed that with a win in the 100 fly as she touched the wall in a time of 1:11.05. Coon was also a part of the Spartans winning 200 medley relay team as they posted a time of 2:07.98. Coon now has four individual wins for the 4-1 Spartans...York's Greg Williams had another good meet as the senior picked up two more wins in the Spartans Friday evening victory at Frostburg State. Williams won the 200 free with a time of 2:04.71. He also captured victory in the 100 back with a time of 1:03.27. He also swam leadoff on the winning 200 medley relay squad as the Spartan foursome posted a time of 1:51.37. Williams now has six individual wins for the year which is tops on the Spartan squad...Southern Virginia freshman James Baldwin earned the top-honors for the Knights at the Lynchburg Invitational. The freshman produced dominant performances as he won the 50 (22.19) and 500 (5:15.87) freestyles. He also added a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle posting a time of 1:49.37...Salisbury senior Richie Baker earned a first place and a second-place finish at Washington College on Wednesday. Baker won the 50-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 22.11 seconds. He followed that with another season-best in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 55.20 seconds to finish second. He joined Sean Cochran, Jeff Roman and Mitchell McGee place second in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:31.61, Baker was the starter for the relay, swimming the first part in 22.32 seconds...Salisbury senior Chase McClure earned a first and second-place finish in their meet against Washington College. McClure swam the 50-yd freestyle in 26.32 seconds to finish first. She earned second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.51 seconds. McClure also anchored the 200-yard freestyle relay to help the team earn a second-place finish. She swam her part of the relay in 25.98 seconds.
