Claudia Keller Named CAC Women's Swimmer of the Week

CAC -- The Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) has announced its weekly awards following the first weeks of the 2019-20 swimming campaign. York junior Jake Halem earned CAC Men's Swimmer of the Week accolades, while Mary Washington junior Claudia Keller claimed CAC Women's Swimmer of the Week honors.


MEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Jake Halem - York (Pa.)

York junior Jake Halem had a strong debut for the Green and White at the Franklin & Marshall Tri-Meet on Saturday in Lancaster, PA. Halem won the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:00.95 and he followed that with a runner-up finish in the 100 freestyle as he touched the wall in a time of 52.14.


WOMEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Claudia Keller - Mary Washington

Mary Washington junior Claudia Keller turned in an outstanding start to the season, as the Eagles defeated Lynchburg and Bridgewater on Saturday after opening against nationally-ranked Washington & Lee last Friday. In the Eagles' victories over UL and BC, Keller won the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:01.42. Keller also won the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:22.72, beating the competition by 15 seconds. In the opener against W&L, she picked up UMW's first victory of the evening in the 1000 yard freestyle, with a time of 10:52.30, and completed the endurance combo with a win in the 500 freestyle at 5:20.90.

LEAGUE NOTES

York senior Justine Wantz opened her 2019-20 regular season with a pair of wins at the Franklin & Marshall Tri-Match on Saturday against the Diplomats and the Widener Pride. Wantz won the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:01.34 as she won the race by almost a full second. She followed that with a victory in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:11.60 as she won the race by almost four seconds...Salisbury senior Angela Barzanti won the 800-meter freestyle with a time of 10:44.05 to help SU's women's swim team defeat Marymount, 116-67....Kameron Conley earned two golds in 100-meter and 800-meter freestyle with times of 57.79 seconds and 10:09.68 to help Salisbury's men's swim team earn the 109-65 win over Marymount in the season opener...Mary Washington senior Noah Carpenter won two individual races and one relay to help the Eagles top Bridgewater and Lynchburg on Friday, after a solid start in the opener again st Washington & Lee. Carpenter served as the first leg in the 200 yard medley relay to help the team win with a time of 1:39.53. Carpenter then went on to take first in the 100 backstroke at 55.35, and then won the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:55.87. Mary Washington senior Noah Carpenter won two individual races and one relay to help the Eagles top Bridgewater and Lynchburg on Friday. Carpenter served as the first leg in the 200 yard medley relay to help the team win with a time of 1:39.53. He then went on to take first in the 100 backstroke at 55.35, and then won the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:55.87. In the opener, Carpenter finished in first place in the 1000 yard freestyle at 10:12.26.
