UMW Women's Swimming in First Place After Session One at Gettysburg Invite

The University of Mary Washington women's swimming team opened the first session with a pair of relay wins to catapult into first place after one session at the Gettysburg College Invitational on Friday night. The Eagles have 366 points, 20 ahead of second place Gettysburg.

The Eagles opened Friday with a win from Carley Vaughn, Mary Zagrobelny, Erin Whitesell, and Sydney Hall in the 200 medley relay at 1:48.78. Freshman Macey Lynch finished third in the 200 backstroke at 2:11.68, as the Eagles finished 3-4-6 in the event. Julia Geskey then took third in the 100 yard freestyle at 53.92, and Zagrobelny followed taking second in the 200 breaststroke at 2:25.85. Callie Dunham took third.

Vaughn then won the 200 yard butterfly at 2:06.14, with Whitesell taking fourth. Claudia Keller took first in the mile at 17:45.92, and Vaughn, Grace Gartman, Hall, and Geskey touched out at 3:36.66 in the 400 free relay to win the race.

The meet will continue on Saturday.
