UMW Women's Swim Team Captures 28th Straight CAC Championship on Sunday Evening

The University of Mary Washington women's swimming team captured the 2018 Capital Athletic Conference Championship - its 28th consecutive title - on Sunday night in St. Mary's City, Md. The Eagles' 28 straight titles are the most in any sport in the conference's 28-year history.

UMW finished with 913 points, 98 ahead of second place York. Frostburg finished third with 401 points, followed by St. Mary's with 365, Marymount with 345, and Salisbury with 254. Head Coach Abby Brethauer was named the CAC Coach of the Year, and freshman Claudia Keller was named the league's rookie of the year.

On Sunday night in finals action, Keller led off the night with a first place finish in the mile, with a time of 17:23.54. Megan Murphy then led an Eagle onslaught in the 100 IM, finishing first at 59.14. Julia Geskey was second, Erin Whitesell third, and Mary Zagrobelny fourth.

The Eagles then finished 2-3-4-5 in the 200 yard backstroke, as Maddy Rymer, Keller, Taylor Mooney, and Kaylie Benson touched the wall, respectively. The Eagles finished 5-6-7 in the 100 freestyle, and then 4-5-6 in the 200 breaststroke. Murphy won the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:07.37, with Carley Vaughn taking second.

The 400 yard free relay finished the meet in second place with a time of 3:33.87.
