Murphy Gains B Cut as UMW Women's Swimming Starts Strong at Gettysburg Invite

Senior Megan Murphy opened day one with an NCAA provisional cut as the University of Mary Washington women's swimming team started with a strong start on day one of the Gettysburg College Invitational on Friday night.

Murphy gained her cut with a first place finish in the 200 yard butterfly, with a time of 2:05.22. The 200 medley relay of Carley Vaughn, Mary Zagrobelny, Murphy, and Grace Gartmen opened the meet with a first place finish at 1:47.82. Sophomore Julia Geskey followed with a first in the 200 backstroke at 2:08.13, followed in second by senior Maddy Rymer at 2:08.24. Kait Luncher took second in the 100 freestyle at 54.55, and Zagrobelny followed with a first in the 200 breaststroke at 2:27.98, with McKinzie Turner finishing second at 2:29.61.

Vaughn took second to Murphy in the 200 fly at 2:07.13, and freshman Claudia Keller took first in the 1650 free at 17:39.41. The women's 400 free relay closed the day with a first place finish with a winning time of 3:35.18.

The meet will conclude on Saturday.
