UMW Women's Swimmers Capture Record 26th Straight Capital Athletic Conference Crown

The University of Mary Washington women's swimming team continued its unparalleled run of 26 consecutive Capital Athletic Conference Championships on Sunday night at St. Mary's College of Md. The Eagles are the only program in any sport in the CAC to win every conference title since the league was formed in 1990-91.

On Sunday, senior Ashley Walnut finished first in the mile with a time of 17:39.98. UMW dominated the top five spots in the 200 yard backstroke, with Anna Corley finishing first at 2:04.80, followed by Emily Adams, Maddy Rymer, Michaela Miller, and Taylor Mooney.

Steph Hallock won the 100 yard freestyle at 51.36, with Shannon Coryell taking third. Hannah Hagy finished first in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:24.63. Sophomore Megan Murphy finished first in the 200 yard butterfly at 2:08.31, and Abby Cox finished second.

The 400 free relay of Coryell, Lauren Wood, Ashley Walnut, and Hallock finished first with a time of 3:29.47. 

Head coach Abby Brethauer was named as the CAC Women's Coach of the Year, while Anna Corley was named as CAC Swimmer of the Year.
