UMW Women Dominates Day One at CAC Swimming Championships With Wins in Every Event

The University of Mary Washington women's swim team opened competition at the 2016 Capital Athletic Conference Championships in fine style, winning every race in jumping out to a commanding lead.

The day started with a bang in prelims, as the 200 free relay shattered the existing school, conference, and meet record by more than four seconds, as Katie Fago, Shannon Coryell, Hannah Hagy and Steph Hallock swam to a time of 1:34.71, surpassing the NCAA provisional qualifying time by more than a second. That quartet came back in the night session and swam 1:35.06 to take first in the final.

Senior Ashley Walnut finished first in the 500 freestyle at 5:03.81, with freshman Emily Adams taking fourth. Junior Anna Corley smashed the conference and meet record by more than a second in the 200 yard IM in the final with a time of 2:04.00, which easily qualified provisionally for the NCAA Championships.

Hallock took first in the 50 yard freestyle at 23.92 in the finals after breaking the meet record in the prelims at 23.68. That swim gained her provisional qualifying for the NCAA Championship. Coryell took second.

The evening closed with the 400 medley relay of Fago, Corley, Hagy, and Hallock breaking the conference and meet record and qualifying provisionally for the NCAA Championships with a time of 3:50.42.
