Silver Swimmers: UMW Women Capture Unprecedented 25th CAC Championship; Sweep Individual Awards

The University of Mary Washington women's swim team kept its Capital Athletic Conference Championship undefeated treak alive for the 25th straight year in gaining the 2015 title on Sunday night in St. Mary's City, Md. The program is the only one in any sport to have captured 25 straight (every) CAC championship.

The Eagles opened action Sunday night by seeing senior Maddie Carinci finishing first in the mile with a time of 17:57.74. Sophomore Kris Currie took third.

UMW dominated the 200 yard backstroke, finishing 1-2-3-4, with Anna Corley taking first at 2:07.02, followed in second by Katie Fago at 2:07.12. Robin Brazier was third and Maddy Rymer fourth.

Stephanie Hallock took first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 51.79 (a new meet record and NCAA B cut), with teammate Shannon Coryell taking third. Alex Parrish finished second in the 200 breastsroke at 2:26.11, followed in third by Hannah Hagy and Morgan Miller in fourth.

Megan Murphy then won the 200 butterfly at 2:08.27, and NCAA B cut, followed by Abby Cox in second place.

The 400 freestyle relay capped the evening with a first place finish at 3:34.05. That relay consisted of Stephanie Hallock, Shannon Coryell, Katie Fago, and Anna Corley.

Abby Brethauer was named the league's Coach of the Year, while Megan Murphy was named Rookie of the Year, and Hallock won CAC Swimmer of the Year Honors.
