1991-92 MWC Women's Swimming Season in Review

A best-ever record of 10-2...at least one All-American performer for the fourth time in five years...a second straight Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Championship...three victories in four decisions over Division I programs...multiple individual NCAA qualifiers for the first time.

These are just some of the accomplishments of the 1991-92 MWC women's swimming team, which returns the nucleus of that record shattering contingent for the 1992-93 campaign. Excitement has further increased because of a potentially outstanding recruiting class and expected continued development of the "younger veterans."

One of the aforementioned members of the youth movement is sophomore Amanda Dresser (Williamsburg, VA), who became MWC's second individual All-American by finishing 13th in the 200 butter fly at NCAA Division III Nationals. She joined Amanda Clair (Jr./Lancaster, PA) as 1992 individual qualifiers; Clair was an entrant in the breaststroke events in '92 after competing on All-American freestyle and medley relay teams as a freshman. Both Dresser and Clair were double winners at the CAC Championships in 1992. Sarah Hertz (Jr./Fairfax, VA) - a 1991freestyle relay All-American - won the 200free at the CACs last season. Megan Carter Gr./New Providence, NJ) de fended her CAC 500 freestyle title and Alison Cerul Gr./Nokesville, VA) her 1,650 freestyle crown. Other important contributors to the landmark season...Allison Murdock (Sr./Salisbury, MD) in the freestyle and butterfly, backstroker Heidi Heise (Jr./Chatham, NJ), CAC champion in the 200and 400 medley relay and Jill Trussell Gr./Roanoke, VA), a '91-92 captain and butterfly and IM specialist.

"With no losses to graduation and a talented incoming class - including some fine transfer prospects - this should be an exciting year for MWC women's swimming," said Richards. "The tougher NCAA cuts made it more difficult to qualify for nationals last year, but the team responded well. This year, we hope to have even more qualifiers and All-Americans. And since this team has just one senior, we will get stronger each year. Our team goals are a third CAC title and a Top-10 team finish at NCAA nationals."
