The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 deicison at top-ranked Christopher Newport University on Wednesday night in Newport News, Va. The Eagles slip to 8-3-4 on the season.
The game was a defensive battle throughout, with neither team able to hit the nets for the first 81 minutes of the game, with limited shots on each side. The Captans scored at 81:39 to pull ahead with the late score and the eventual game winner.
Mary Washington led in shots, 7-6, and each team had one corner kick. UMW goalkeeper Ally Holden made two saves on the night.
The Eagles will be right back in action for a rematch with CNU on Saturday for Homecoming at 12 pm at the Battleground.
