UMW Women's Soccer Tops Southern VA Knights 2-1, Goals by O'Fallon and Krest

Seniors Mikaela O'Fallon (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) and Amanda Krest (Ashburn, Va./Ridge) scored the lone goals in Wednesday nights' matchup to lead the University of Mary Washington women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Southern Virginia University at the Battleground. The efforts of the whole team helped gain them its home opener in a hard fought match where defense and communication were key.

Krest opened the scoring in the opening minutes, at 2:37, with O'Fallon's goal coming in in the second period at 70:00. The Knights reached the scoreboard with a goal at 81:04, but UMW held them scoreless for the remaining of the game.

Substitutions were aplenty on both sides, allowing for high-end play throughout the game.

UMW led in shots, 19-3, and in corner kicks, 2-1. UMW goalkeeper Alley Holden had two saves in 80:18, and Caroline Sheusi added 9:42 of scoreless relief.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday when they host Marymount University at 1:00 p.m.
