Boyd, Zimmerman Score as UMW Women's Soccer Blanks St. Mary's, 2-0

Sophomore Riley Boyd (West Chester, Pa. / Bayard Rustin) and senior Abby Zimmerman (Charlottesville, Va. / Western Albemarle) each scored goals to propel the University of Mary Washington women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over St. Mary's College on Wednesday afternoon at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 3-5-1 with the win.

The Eagles carried much of the possession, and Boyd found the nets at 15:19, immediately after being substituted into the game, on an assist from ssenior Lindsey Hendrickson (Clifton, Va. / Centreville). Hendrickson guided the ball laterally through the Seahawk defense at the top of the penalty area to Boyd, who was alone in a seam and connected for her first collegiate score.

The second half saw the Seahawks come out with greater intensity, and they found several opportunities, but it was the Eagles finding their second goal to stem the tide. Zimmerman collected a loose ball of a saved crossing ball and found the open net at 49:37, unassisted.

The Eagles led in shots, 17-3, as well as corner kicks, 9-2. UMW senior goalie Allison Nork (Harrisburg, Pa. / Bishop McDevitt) made a pair of saves in recording the shutout.

Mary Washington will be back in action on Saturday when the Eagles host Salisbury University at 1:00 p.m. in a Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference matchup.
