UMW Women's Soccer Falls at #2 William Smith, 2-0, in NCAA Tournament 2nd Rd.

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision at second-ranked William Smith College on Sunday afternoon in the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament in Geneva, N.Y. The Eagles close the season with a 12-11 record.

The Herons reached the scoreboard at 16:48 into the first half, as Eileen Rath scored off a rebound assisted from Emilie Sauvayre. Despite being outshot in the first, 13-2, the Eagles trailed by that one tally at intermission.

In the second, William Smith added an insurance score at 50:18, from Sheila McQuillen, and held on for the two-goal margin of victory.

The Herons led in shots, 25-4, as well as in corner kicks, 11-2. Allison Nork made 11 saves in goal for Mary Washington in 78 minutes, and Aly Holden added 12 minutes of scoreless relief without a save.
