UMW Women’s Soccer Tops St. Mary’s, 2-0, on Saturday Afternoon

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team topped St. Mary's College, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon in St. Mary's, MD. The Eagles improve to 7-10 overall and 4-5 in the CAC.

In the first half, the Eagles recorded the first two shots of the game as Brielle Mitchell came out firing. St. Mary's then had two good looks in the 10th minute, but Allison Van Nork came up with two straight saves to keep the game tied at 0-0. 

UMW recorded three corner kicks between the minutes of 14-18. On the third corner kick, the Eagles put the ball in the back of the net as Katherine Brady put UMW up 1-0. The Eagles searched for a second goal before the half expired and recorded three shots on goal, but all of them were saved by the Seahawks.

The Eagles kept threatening early in the second half, and finally got the insurance goal they were looking for in the 60th minute. Mitchell put UMW up 2-0 as she scored on an assist from Abby Zimmerman. UMW shutout the Seahawks in the second half and didn't allow a shot.

UMW outshot St. Mary's 17-3, and had 11 corner kicks. Van Nork recorded two saves on the day for the Eagles.

UMW will be back in action on Wednesday as they will close out the regular season with a CAC matchup against York. The Eagles will look to avenge a 1-0 loss to the Spartans from their previous matchup.
