UMW Women’s Soccer Downs SVU, 8-0, on Wednesday

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team downed Southern Virginia University, 8-0, on Wednesday in Fredericksburg, VA. The Eagles improve to 6-8 overall, and 3-3 in the CAC.

UMW came out of the gates ready to play as they scored just 34 seconds in. Freshman Macey Wissell played a ball to Malorie Joseph who finished past the goalie to put the Eagles up 1-0. The Eagles kept it rolling in the scoring department as Brooke Bauman finished off an assist from Wissell. 

Sophomore Abby Zimmerman put UMW up 3-0 in the 27th minute. Just six minutes later, Sara Sabo added a goal to give the Eagles a four goal advantage. UMW would take the 4-0 lead into the half.

The Eagles didn't stop scoring from there as they added a goal just three minutes into the second half. Freshman Mikaela O'Fallon scored her first career goal to put UMW up 5-0. Just a minute later, Katherine Brady scored off an assist by Brielle Mitchell

Hope Grzebien got in on the action as she scored her first career goal in the 57th minute. Zimmerman added her second of the day to cap the scoring for UMW in the 77th minute as she finished off an assist from Zoila Rodriguez

UMW outshot SVU, 23-2, and had 10 corner kicks. Allison Van Nork recorded one save on the day.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday as they will host #8 CNU at 12 p.m. as part of Homecoming. UMW will look to avenge a 3-0 loss to the Captains earlier in the season.
