UMW Women’s Soccer Falls to Salisbury, 1-0, on Wednesday

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team fell to Salisbury University, 1-0, on Wednesday afternoon in Fredericksburg, Va. The Eagles slip to 4-6 overall, and 1-1 in the CAC.

UMW had a good look in the early going, but an offsides call halted that run. Brielle Mitchell fired a shot that was just high in the third minute mark. Over the next 18 minutes, both teams combined for just one shot. Salisbury got on the board in the 21st minute as they scored on a misplayed ball from the goalkeeper.

Allison Nork came on in relief and recorded two straight saves in the 25th minute to keep the Eagles' deficit at one. The two teams settled in over the last 20 minutes and the defenses played tough as they only allowed three total shots.

Amanda Krest had a good look at goal in the first four minutes of the second half but was denied by the Seagulls goalkeeper. Nork came up with two big saves over the next few minutes to keep the Eagles within one. Lindsay Hendrickson had a shot denied at the doorstep of the goal in the 57th minute.

The Eagles offense went quiet over the next 20 minutes, but Nork recorded another save to keep the game 1-0. UMW pressed on offense to obtain the game-tying goal but came up just short.

UMW had seven shots and two corner kicks. Nork recorded six saves on the day.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday as they will travel to CNU for a game at 5 p.m.
