UMW Women’s Soccer Drops 1-0 Decision to Bridgewater in Double OT on Sunday

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team fell to Bridgewater College, 1-0, in double overtime on Sunday afternoon in the UMW Classic. The Eagles slip to 1-3 on the season. 

UMW was on the attack early as the Eagles led the shot count 3-1 in the first 25 minutes. The Eagles stayed on the attack for the rest of the half and they outshot Bridgewater 6-4. Both goalies recorded two saves in the half.

In the second half, Anna Longacher had a shot just eight minutes in but the goalkeeper for Bridgewater made a nice save on the ball. In the 62nd minute, Brooke Bauman earned the Eagles a pk after she was knocked down when possessing the ball. The ensuing penalty kick was saved by Bridgewater and kept the game knotted at 0-0. 

Aly Holden came up with some key saves in the second half to keep Bridgewater off the board. The two teams played even the rest of the way and took the game into overtime. 

In the first overtime, both teams recorded a shot each. Bridgewater had a good chance at goal denied by Holden. Neither team scored a goal and the game went into double overtime.

Bridgewater scored the game-winning goal in double overtime as UMW let in an own goal to win the game.

UMW outshot Bridgewater 13-9 and won the corner kick battle 9-1. Holden made five saves in goal for the Eagles.

UMW will be back in action on Wednesday as they host Randolph-Macon at 4:30 p.m.
