Freshman Margot Brown scored the game-winning goal in the 55th minute on an assist from Corinne Carson to lift the University of Mary Washington women's soccer past Penn St.-Harrisburg, 1-0, in the CAC first round on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles improve to 11-3-1 on the season. 

UMW dominated the first half as they fired off five shots to the Nittany Lions' none. In the fourth minute, Lizzie Brooks had a look at goal but it was saved. Katherine Brady hit a shot on goal in the 29th minute but was also saved. 

Brady had another good look off of a corner kick and her shot sailed just a bit high as it hit off the crossbar. Carson had a few shots over the last seven minutes of the half but the Eagles couldn't find the back of the net and went into halftime tied 0-0.

The Eagles came out attacking in the second half as they reeled off two shots and three corner kicks in the first six minutes. UMW finally broke through in the 55th minute as Brown scored off an assist from Carson to put the Eagles up 1-0. UMW stayed on the attack over the next few minutes but could not squeeze another goal in.

Kelcie Macomber made two key saves in the 63rd and 66th minute to keep the Eagles up one. UMW's defense held strong from there and only allowed one more shot that was sailed high.

The Eagles outshot the Lions 15-3, and had nine corner kicks on the day. Macomber finished with two saves.

UMW will be back in action on Wednesday as they will host St. Mary's in the CAC semifinals at 11 a.m.
