UMW Women's Soccer Falls to Shenandoah, 4-1, on Wednesday Afternoon

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision to Shenandoah University on Wednesday afternoon at the Battleground. The Eagles slip to 4-2-1 on the season.

The Hornets reached the scoreboard at 32:31 on a goal from Abby Alexa, and added another just before halftime at 37:45, to take a 2-0 advantage to intermission. The Hornets added another at 67:07 on a score from Shannen de Leon, but the Eagles fought back with a goal from freshman Abby Zimmerman at 85:20 on a cross from senior Shannon Blackstone. Shenandoah added an insurance tally at 88:00 for the 4-1 final. 

The Hornets led in shots, 12-9, and led, 7-2, in corner kicks. UMW goalkeeper Kelcie Macomber recorded three saves for the home side, while Emilie Smith made three stops for Shenandoah.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday when they host York College in the Capital Athletic Conference opener at 1 p.m.
