UMW Women's Soccer Tops Meredith, 5-0, on Wet Sunday at the Battleground

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team erupted for four second half goals en route to a 5-0 victory over Meredith College on Sunday at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 4-1-1, while the Avenging Angels fall to 3-3-1.

The Eagles created several quality chances early, outshooting the Avenging Angels, 10-0, in the first half, but held a 1-0 lead. Senior Lizzie Brooks found the nets at 31:34 on an assist from sophomore Brooke Bauman.

In the second, UMW scored quickly as Corinne Carson scored on a Bauman assist at 47:37 to up the lead to 2-0, and freshman Lindsey Hendrickson scored on a penalty kick at 63:26. Hendrickson scored again on a header off a corner kick at 66:51, and added her third goal of the day for a hat trick at 75:19.

The Eagles led in shots, 21-1, and in corner kicks, 7-0. UMW goalkeeper Kelcie Macomber gained the shutout without making a save, while Meredith's Miranda Lutz had six stops for the Avanging Angels.

Mary Washington will be back in action again on Wednesday when the Eagles host Shenandoah University at 4:00 p.m.
