Rauch's OT Score Lifts UMW Women's Soccer Past Huntingdon, 1-0, in UMW Classic Opener

Senior Katie Rauch scored the game's only goal in the 98th minute to lift the University of Mary Washington women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Huntingdon College on Saturday in the opener of the UMW Soccer Classic on Saturday at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 2-0-1 on the season.

In regulation, the Eagles maintained the majority of possession and outshot the Hawks, 11-3, but neither team would find the scoreboard, sending the Eagles to overtime for the second time in three games. With 7:24 elapsed in the first extra frame, Rauch scored the game winner on an assist from freshman Abby Zimmerman to give the Eagles a win in their home opener.

UMW led in shots, 14-3, for the day, and notched seven corner kicks to one for Huntingdon. UMW goalkeeper Kelcie Macomber made one save in recording the shutout. Huntingdon's Kylie Kersh had six saves in goal.

The Eagles will return to action on Sunday when they face Berry College at 3 pm in the UMW Classic finale.
