UMW Women’s Soccer Explodes for 8 Goals in Win at Elmira

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team exploded for eight goals in a win at Elmira College on Sunday, 8-0. Malorie Joseph and Brooke Bauman scored two goals a piece to lead the team. The Eagles improve to 1-0-1 on the season.

Bauman put UMW on the board in the 1st minute as she scored on an assist from Abby Zimmerman. In the 16th minute, Brielle Mitchell scored her first goal of the season to put the Eagles up 2-0.

With 13 minutes left to play in the first half, Lindsey Hendrickson netted her first collegiate goal to give UMW a three goal lead and that held until halftime.

In the second half, Bauman scored her second goal of the game on another assist from Zimmerman in the 52nd minute to put the Eagles up 4-0. From there, Joseph picked up where she left off last game as she scored on an assist from Katie Rauch and then unassisted to give her four goals on the young season.

Zoila Rodriguez put UMW up 7-0 on an assist from Hannah Nightingale with just eight minutes left to play. Nightingale capped the scoring for the Eagles on an assist from Rodriguez in the last minute of the game to defeat Elmira 8-0.

UMW outshot Elmira 29-3, and recorded seven corner kicks. Kelcie Macomber and Allison Nork tallied on save a piece.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday as they will host Huntingdon at 12:30 p.m. as part of the UMW Classic.
