UMW Women's Soccer Falls to #8 CNU, 5-1, on Homecoming Saturday

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, but couldn't hold on in a 5-1 loss to eighth ranked Christopher Newport University on Saturday for Homecoming on Saturday. The Eagles slip to 7-9-1 overall, and 3-4-1 in Capital Athletic Conference action.

UMW struck quickly in the contest, as freshman Brooke Bauman scored her sixth goal of the season after a misplay by the CNU goalkeeper at 6:22. The Captains responded to tie the score at 9:46, as Riley Cook scored on a Keiley McCarthy assist. The Captains took the lead at 33:04 on a Maddie Cochran score, and added another at 39:32 on an Emily Schoka volley. The Captains added another at 43:32 to take a 4-1 advantage to halftime.

In the second half, The Captains scored in the final minute of the game to increase their margin to 5-1.

CNU led in shots, 27-5, as well as in corner kicks, 9-2. UMW goalkeeper Haley Randall had 10 saves, while CNU's Carly Maglio added three saves.

Mary Washington will be back in action on Wednesday when they visit Penn State Harrisburg at 3:00 p.m. in the regular season finale.
