UMW Women's Soccer Falls to Southern Va., 2-1, on Wednesday

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team jumped out to a 1-0 halftime lead, but visiting Southern Virginia University scored two goals late to gain a 2-1 victory on Wednesday in Capital Athletic Conference play.

The Eagles struck at 10:25, when Grace Friedl scored on a Brooke Bauman assist from outside the 18 yard line. UMW held the lead for the next 60 minutes, but the Knights tallied the tying score at 71:52 on an Alli Rigby goal, and the winner just over five minutes later at 77:09 when Rigby assisted Clarissa Barton.

UMW led in shots, 13-9, and corner kicks, 7-3. UMW goalkeeper Haley Randall had three saves, while Southern Virginia's Meredith Oullette had four.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday when they visit Wesley College at 7:30 p.m.
