UMW Women's Soccer Falls to Salisbury, 1-0, on Saturday

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to visiting Salisbury University on Saturday in Capital Athletic Conference action at the Battleground. The Eagles slip to 5-6 on the season, and 1-1 in league play.

In an evenly played first half, neither team could find the nets. UMW held a 6-5 advantage in shots in the period, while the Sea Gulls held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks. The score stood scoreless through intermission.

In the second half, UMW opened the gates with shots, outshooting the guests, 10-3, but it was Salisbury who scored the game's lone goal at 79:47, when Ruthie Lucas' shot hit off the goal post and into goal unassisted.

In all, UMW led in shots, 16-8, while the Gulls led in corner kicks, 6-3. UMW goalkeeper Haley Randall had two saves for the Eagles, while Hope Knussman had four stops for Salisbury.

The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday when they visit Frostburg State University in another CAC contest starting at 7:30 p.m.
