UMW Women's Soccer Falls to Rowan, 3-0, on Sunday in Classic Finale

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Rowan University on Sunday afternoon in the finale of the UMW Classic at the Battleground. The Eagles slip to 3-2 on the season.

Rowan gained the upper hand in the 24th minute, as Cathryn McCarry scored on an assist from Maddie Williscroft. The Profs maintained the 1-0 advantage to intermission, in a half that saw just four shots placed on goal.

In the second, the Profs added an insurance goal at 69:51, as Lauren Wood beat one defender one on one, and found the nets on a break. Melissa Kelly added the capper at 73:52 unassisted on a loose ball in front of goal.

Rowan led in shots on the day, 9-3, and in corner kicks, 7-0. UMW goalkeeper Haley Randall made one save for the Eagles, while Shelby Money had three stops for Rowan.

The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Randolph-Macon College at 4:30 p.m.
