UMW Women's Soccer Tops Elmira, 5-2, on Sunday to Move to 2-0

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team concluded its weekend trip to New York with a 5-2 victory at Elmira College on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles stand at 2-0 on the season.

Junior Katie Rauch opened the scoring for the Eagles at 11:17, scoring off a deflection in front of the goal. Just 41 seconds later, freshman Brooke Bauman scored her second goal in as many days.

Elmira scored in the 35th minute to draw to within 2-1, and the score stood until halftime.

In the second half, sophomore Brielle Mitchell scored her first of the season on a direct free kick at 69:11. Less than two minutes later, freshman Erica Ganthner scored on a Mackenzie Kirkham assist to push the lead to 4-1. After another Elmira score drew them to within 4-2, UMW capped the scoring with freshman Jordan Rock netting her first goal in the 88th minute.

The Eagles led in shots, 33-7, while Elmira led in corner kicks, 4-3. Eagle goalkeeper Kelcie Macomber made three saves in goal, while Elmira's Rachel Grampp had 15 saves.

UMW will be back in action on Wednesday when they host North Carolina Wesleyan College at 4:30 p.m.
