UPDATE: Bauman's Late Tally Lifts UMW Women's Soccer Past Houghton, 1-0, in Season Opener

Freshman Brooke Bauman scored the game's only goal with 2:17 remaining in regulation, as the University of Mary Washington women's soccer team opened the season with a 1-0 victory at Houghton College on Friday evening in New York.

While they held a commanding advantage in shots, 19-6, as well as a 2-1 edge in corner kicks, the Eagles were unable to find the nets throughout the first 87:43, as Houghton goalkeeper Sadie Dunnett notched 11 saves. But Bauman provided the game winner in the waning minutes on an assist from Corinne Carson, giving UMW a victory in game number one.

UMW goalkeeper Haley Randall made three saves in gaining the shutout.

The Eagles will return to action on Sunday when they visit Elmira College at noon.
