The University of Mary Washington women's socceer team dropped a 2-0 decision at top seeded Christopher Newport University on Wednesday night in Newport News, Va. The Eagles finish the season with a record of 11-6-2.
The first half saw little action offensively, with the Eagles gaining the best opportunity, but the score stood tied 0-0 at halftime. Each team had three shots in the first half.
The Captains netted a pair of scores early in the second half to seize control. Gabby Gillis scored at 51:41 on a Keily McCarthy assist, and Shaye Doherty scored just 2:18 later for an insurance score.
The goals held up for CNU, who outshot the Eagles, 14-8. The Captains also held a 3-2 edge in corner kicks. UMW goalkeeper Haley Randall had three saves, while CNU's Carly Maglio had three saves as well.
