UMW Women's Soccer Blanks York, 2-0, in CAC Tournament 1st Round

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team used the strength of a goal in each half to gain a 2-0 victory over York College of Pa. in the first round of the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 11-5-2 overall, and will advance to the CAC semifinals on Wednesday.

Although the Eagles had a decided shot advantage in the first half, the game remained scoreless until 31:15, when sophomore Lizzie Brooks scored on a header from an Allye Reynolds assist. The Eagles maintained the lead through halftime, outshooting the Spartans, 6-0, in the first half.

In the second, UMW found several chances, and captalized again at 63:58, on an unassisted score from Katie Rauch. That score held up as an insurance tally in the two-goal win.

The Eagles eld in shots, 10-4, as well as in corner kicks, 5-3. UMW goalkeeper Haley Randall made two saves, while York's Brittany Cullison had one stop.

UMW will advance to the CAC semifinals on Wednesday, when they will visit top seeded Christopher Newport University at 6:00 p.m.
