Sara Armor Named CAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week

YORK, Pa. -- York junior Maxine Herman and Mary Washington senior Sara Armor were named the CAC Women's Soccer Players of the Week for Oct. 24, 2016. 

Offensive Player of the Week

York junior Maxine Herman was named the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after tallying four goals and both game-winning scores in a 2-0 week for the Spartans. Herman opened the week with a hat trick to propel the Spartans past Wesley, 5-1. In a crucial 1-0 win over Salisbury on Saturday, Herman scored the game's only goal in the 60th minute. She has six goals and one assist on the season.

Mary Washington senior goalkeeper Sara Armor was selected as the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after turning in a pair of shutouts last week to help the Eagles clinch a CAC playoff berth. Armor posted a clean sheet with 10 saves in a scoreless tie with St. Mary's and Wednesday, and followed that up with another shutout in a 7-0 win over Wesley on Saturday.

Christopher Newport is ranked No. 15 in the Oct. 18 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) rankings ... With just one game remaining in the conference regular season, CNU (7-0-1), St. Mary's (6-1-1), Frostburg State (6-2), and Mary Washington (5-2-1) have solidified spots in the six-team tournament field, while York (4-4), Salisbury (3-4-1), and Penn State Harrisburg (3-5) are in the mix for the final two postseason bids ... St. Mary's, Frostburg State, and Mary Washington have at least secured a first-round home game, with all three in the hunt for the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye. The regular season wraps up on Wednesday, with the first round set for Saturday, Oct. 29 ... CNU's Carly Maglio allowed two goals in three games this week for a 0.62 GAA. Maglio made 14 saves, including seven in a shutout at Penn State Harrisburg to secure the team's fourth straight CAC regular season title ... FreshmanBrooke Shehade helped Frostburg State to two more shutouts last week as she scored three goals and handed out one assist. The Bobcats have won four straight ... Marymount goalkeeper Sydney Schultz totaled 11 saves with a .846 save % in a 1-1 week for the Saints ... St. Mary's senior Gillian Sawyerscored twice in the Seahawks' 3-0 win over Southern Virginia ... Southern Virginia's Tatiana Monsen scored her seventh goal of the year in her final home game of her career on Wednesday. She leads the team in goals and points and is second in shots. Freshman goalkeeper Megan Turner earned her first shutout of the year over Marymount with two saves. Turner has 54 saves on the year ... York goalkeeper Brittany Cullison owns a 1.58 GAA and .705 save % in 2016, and has notched three shutouts.
