UMW Women's Soccer Falls at Christopher Newport, 1-0, on Saturday Night

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision at Christopher Newport University on Saturday night in Newport News, Va. The Eagles slip to 8-5-1 overall, and 4-2 in Capital Athletic Conference action.

UMW held a slim lead in shots through much of the first half, but neither team could find the nets until Christopher Newport found the game's lone goal at 42:19 on a goal by Gabby Gillis, assisted by Kate Hurlock.

From there, neither team would score, with the Eagles holding CNU scoreless in the second half despite 12 shots in all. The Captains led in shots, 22-7, as well as corner kicks, 6-3. UMW goalkeeper Haley Randall made eight saves in the game, while CNU's Carly Maglio had four stops.

The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday afternoon when they visit St. Mary's College in another key CAC showdown starting at 3:30 p.m.
