UMW Women's Soccer Blanks Goucher, 3-0, on Saturday Afternoon

Three different Eagles found the net as the University of Mary Washington women's soccer team defeated Goucher College on Saturday afternoon at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 4-2-1 on the season.

UMW pressured the Gophers early on, finding the net at the 11:12 mark when sophomore Marisa Madaras set up senior Maryfay Jackson. The Eagles entered the half up 1-0, while lead in shots, 6-2, and corners, 3-0.

In the second half, both teams nailed shots off the crossbar, but it was the Eagles that would score again at the 64:36 mark on a goal from Emily Arbisi, her second of the season. With a 2-0 lead, UMW continued to control the pace and hold possession throughout the second half.

With 10 seconds left, Mason Courter found teammate Lizzie Brooks for the final score of the game, giving the Eagles a 3-0 victory.

The Eagles led in shots, 19-6, and in corner kicks, 7-0. Madeline Duvall made two saves in goal for UMW, and kept a clean sheet, her third in a row. Goucher's Lexi Rudolph had eight saves.

The Eagles are back in action on Tuesday at 4:30 pm when they travel to Catholic.
