UMW Women's Soccer Drops 2-1 Decision to Coast Guard in Double OT

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to visiting Coast Guard Academy on Saturday at the Battleground. The Eagles slip to 1-2-1 on the young season.

The Eagles opened the scoring early, as freshman Brielle Mitchell scored her second goal of the season at 5:57 on a long shot from outside the penalty area. UMW carried the 1-0 lead all the way to halftime.

The Bears knotted the score with just 4:58 to play, as Claire Hurley netted an unassisted tally. The game went scoreless through the first overtime.

Coast Guard found the game winner at 103:59, as Hurley scored once more on an assist from Kali Borden.

The Eagles held a 21-11 advantage in shots, including a 5-0 margin in the first extra period, as well as a 9-5 lead in corner kicks. Maedline Duvall made six saves in goal for the Eagles, while Rachel Boohar had 12 stops for Coast Guard.

Mary Washington will face Maryville College on Sunday at 3:00 on day two of the UMW Kickoff Classic, while Coast Guard will face Randolph-Macon at 12:30 p.m. at the Battleground.
