UMW Women's Soccer Ties NC Wesleyan in Wednesday Road Tilt

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team jumped out to a 1-0 advantage, but homestanding North Carolina Wesleyan College responded late in regulation to force overtime in an eventual 1-1 tie on Wednesday in Rocky Mount, N.C. The Eagles move to 1-1-1 on the season.

Mary Washington grabbed the lead at 33:43, when sophomore Marisa Madaras scored her first goal of the season unassisted. The Eagles held the lead through halftime.

In the second, the Eagles continued to lead until 85:44, when the Bishops tied the score on a tally from Logan Bill, who connected on Jordan Forbess' cross to send the game into overtime, in which neither team could add to their goal total.

UMW led in shots, 14-8, and in corner kicks, 2-1. Senior goalie Sara Armor made a pair of saves in goal for the Eagles, while Ashley Major had six for NC Wesleyan.

The Eagles will return to action on Saturday when they host the U.S. Coast Guard Academy as part of the UMW Classic at 12:30 p.m.
