Four Different Players Score as UMW Women's Soccer Blanks Elmira, 4-0, on Sunday

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team used goals from four different players in defeating Elmira College, 4-0, on Sunday in Elmira, N.Y. The Eagles even their season record at 1-1 on the year.

Freshman Marissa Wood opened the scoring for the Eagles, netting UMW's first goal of the season at 9:19, on an assist from freshman Brielle Mitchell. At 18:37, Mitchell scored on a Lizzie Brooks assist to up the Eagle lead to 2-0, and UMW added another insurance score at 43:59, as sophomore Christiana Meyers scored on a Kara Bruzdzinski assist. The Eagles carried the 3-0 lead to halftime.

Mary Washington capped the scoring at 57:16, as sophomore Kaitlyn Higgins scored unassisted.

The Eagles led in shots, 22-5, and in corner kicks, 5-2. UMW goalkeeper Sara Armor gained the shutout without recording a save.

Mary Washington will return to action on Wednesday when they visit North Carolina Wesleyan College at 4:30 p.m.
