UMW Women's Soccer Drops Opener, 1-0, at Houghton

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team dropped its season opener by a 1-0 score on the road at Houghton College on Saturday night in Houghton, N.Y.

The Eagles held a comfortable margin in shots, 11-4, but couldn't find the nets. Houghton scored the game's lone goal at 64:14, on a goal from Nikki Garns.

Of the Eagles' 11 shots, five were on frame, while two of Houghton's shots were on target. The Eagles held a slim 2-1 edge in corner kicks. Rachel Fortney had five saves in goal for Houghton, while Madeline Duvall had one stop for UMW.

Mary Washington will be back in action again on Sunday when they visit Elmira College at 1:00 p.m.
