UMW Women's Soccer Drops Homecoming Match to Salisbury, 3-1

After a scoreless first half, the Salisbury University women's soccer team erupted for three second half scores in a 3-1 win over the University of Mary Washington on Saturday at Homecoming for the Eagles. UMW slips to 9-7-1 overall, and 4-3-1 in Capital Athletic Conference action.

In a game that saw both offenses start slowly, the Eagles outshot the Gulls, 4-2, in the first half, with Salisbury gaining three corner kicks. The game remained scoreless at intermission.

In the second, Salisbury scored first, as Ruthie Lucas scored on a Victoria Luc assist at 49:05. The Sea Gulls connected again five minutes later, as Casey Arnone scored on a Lindsay Andonian pass.

Trailing 2-0, the Eagles were able to cut the deficit in half as senior Leah Roth scored on a Lizzie Brooks assist at 69:27. Salisbury capped the scoring at 73:45 on a Kandace Racine goal unassisted.

Salisbury held a 10-9 edge in shots, and a 4-2 edge in corner kicks. Freshman goalkeeper Haley Randall had three saves for Mary Washington, while Alesha Seifert had four saves for Salisbury.

The Eagles will close the regular season on Tuesday at Southern Virginia University in a CAC contest starting at 3:30 p.m.
